A crash on U.S. 27 in Waverly has left one man in critical condition, the Polk County Sheriff's Office said.

According to a report, about 2 p.m. today, Justin Ferrio, 19, of Winter Haven was driving a Hyundai Elantra southbound on U.S. 27 near Cypress Gardens Boulevard when, for unknown reasons, he lost control.

The Hyundai spun into the northbound lanes of U.S. 27 into the path of a Chevrolet Tracker being driven by Timothy Moore, 39, of Auburndale. Moore was unable to avoid a collision, deputies said.

Ferrio was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center, where he is listed in critical condition. Moore was taken to Winter Haven Hospital for minor injuries.

The northbound lanes of U.S. 27 were closed for about an hour.

The investigation is ongoing.
