A 69-year-old Zephyrhills woman died early Friday morning in a head-on crash on Morris Bridge Road in New Tampa, deputies said.

Rita Marie Sutliff had to be extricated from her vehicle by rescue workers, but she was declared dead at the scene by paramedics, deputies said.

Just before 4 a.m, Sutliff was driving south in a 2012 Ford Explorer, and 19-year-old Kunjummen Arun Babu was northbound in a 2010 Honda Accord, deputies said.

Both were traveling about 50 mph, deputies said.

According to detectives, Babu drove left of center, crossing the paved safety zone, and struck the Explorer head-on near Pictorial Park Drive, just south of the Pasco County line.

Both drivers were wearing restraint devices, and neither driver appeared to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol, deputies said.

Babu of Zephyrhills, was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said.
