Building on the success of its recent ventures into Land O' Lakes and New Tampa, Florida Medical Clinic is planning even more expansions in 2011.
Chief Executive Officer Joe Delatorre said the company is centralizing its administrative staff in a 30,000-square-foot facility now under construction at its Land O' Lakes campus off State Road 54. The new facility will free up significant space at the clinic's Zephyrhills practice - space that will be put to use to expand its medical offerings.
The practice will invest $5 million in 2011 at its Zephyrhills campus to quadruple the size of its surgery center, expand its rheumatology department and relocate and expand its urgent care facility.
The new outpatient surgery center, which should be completed by the end of the year, will go from one operating room to four.
"It opens up a whole new list of procedures that we'll be able to do," Delatorre said. "We currently only do a few gastroenterological and urological procedures, but with the expansion we'll be able to offer more pain management and orthopedic services."
About 80 percent of the administrative staff - 65 employees - already has relocated to temporary offices in Wesley Chapel for the duration of the construction period.
The expanded surgery center will cost about $3 million. The clinic also is spending roughly $1 million each on expanding the rheumatology department and building a new urgent care facility with expanded night and weekend hours.
