Four students received minor injuries after they were hit by a car at McLaughlin Middle School this afternoon, Lake Wales police said.
At 3:40 p.m. Dilma Guideldefiguera, 50, had just picked up two children at the car rider area of the school, 800 S. 4th St. As she accelerated her 1998 Nissan Altima, she lost control of the vehicle, driving over the curb, across the sidewalk and striking a bench which at least two students were sitting on, police said.
The vehicle continued forward, striking two other students before coming to rest after hitting a brick wall, police said.
The four students, Guideldefiguera and the two children in her vehicle received minor injuries. Five of the children were taken to Lake Wales Medical Center for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. Guideldefiguera and the other child did not require medical attention.
Guideldefiguera cited for careless driving.
