A woman died after wrecking her motorcycle Sunday evening in Lakeland, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

About 6:56 p.m., Christina Brown Partanna, 55, 6350 12th St., Zephyrhills, was traveling southbound on Old Dade City Road near Rockridge Road in north Lakeland on her 2003 Honda. Partanna was at the lead of a group of cyclists that included her brother-in-laws, according to deputies.

Partanna, who was not wearing a helmet, was unable to negotiate a curve and slammed into a guardrail and was ejected from the bike.

She died at the scene from her injuries, deputies said. No one else was injured.

The group of cyclists told deputies they lost sight of Partanna and had to circle back to find her body.

The wreck remains under investigation.
