KEY WEST, Fla. (AP) — Investigators say a man has discovered a human skeleton in a wooded area of the Florida Keys that likely has been there for months.
The Monroe County Sheriff's Office says the male skeleton was discovered Monday morning on Stock Island, just east of Key West. It was across from a school, about 10 feet into the trees.
Authorities say there were no obvious signs of foul play on the remains or in the area around them. The medical examiner's office is trying to determine how the man died.
Sheriff's deputies also found a bag with belongings inside and possible identifying document, including a Florida driver's license issued outside of Monroe County. But authorities say more investigation is needed to find out whether the skeleton is the same person.
