Home-alone children call 911 during Deltona break-in

Published:

DELTONA — Two central Florida siblings called 911 after burglars broke into their house while they were home alone.

Police say the incident happened Thursday afternoon in Deltona.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal reports a 13-year-old girl told the 911 dispatcher that someone had just broken into the house. She told the dispatcher she and her 11-year-old brother heard knocking at the front door and a bedroom window before they locked themselves inside another bedroom and hid in a closet.

Their mother also called 911, saying she was 40 minutes away. She says she had instructed the children not to open the door when her daughter called about someone knocking.

Arriving Volusia County Sheriff’s deputies didn’t find anyone at the home, but they say a window had been broken and opened.\
