$100,000 bond for suspect in fatal day care crash

An Orange County judge set a $100,000 bond Monday for the man accused in a crash that killed a 4-year-old girl and injured 14 people at a day care last week.

An Orange County judge ruled that if bond is secured, 28-year-old Robert Corchado must remain in Orange or Seminole counties and not drive a vehicle.

Prosecutors sought to raise the bail to $250,000 during a Monday morning hearing. Corchado testified in short answers during the hearing. He told the judge he is married, has three young children and that his mother has lived in the area for more than 15 years.

Corchado turned himself in to authorities Thursday, a day after they say his vehicle crashed into a convertible, sending it spinning into a KinderCare building in Winter Park.

Corchado already was out on bond in neighboring Seminole County in an unrelated case. If released on bail in Orlando, he’d likely be arrested on those charges and returned to jail.

On Friday, the judge said that Corchada must remain jailed until deciding whether he’s a flight risk Bail was initially set at $100,000 on Friday, but prosecutors told the judge they feared Corchado will flee if he’s released.
