The Coast Guard on Sunday continued to search for a 6-year-old boy reported missing Saturday evening when swimming with his cousins at Anna Maria Island.
The child was reported missing about 6:30 p.m. at Longboat Pass, on the southern end of the island.
Crews from Longboat Key Fire Rescue, West Manatee Fire Rescue, the U.S. Coast Guard and the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office took part in the search.
The Sarasota Herald-Tribune identified the missing child as Lamontea Taylor, 6.
The paper reported rescuers pulled family members Jerry Green, 6, Natalie Porter, 5, and Danaejah Edwards, 9, from the water just off the beach. Two were reportedly saved by emergency responders and one by a family member.
Manatee County EMS responded to a 911 call from a bystander at 6:37 p.m. regarding four children struggling in the water on the south end of Coquina Beach, said EMS Director Ron Koper.
The Coast Guard searched Saturday evening in an area from Bradenton Beach to Whitney Beach, which includes the Gulf of Mexico and Intracoastal Waterway sides of Anna Maria Island and Longboat Key.
