Manatee County sheriff's deputies Sunday morning found the body of a 14-year-old swimmer who disappeared in the surf off Anna Maria Island on Saturday afternoon.
Marine unit deputies found the body of Dushay Nelson at 9 a.m., said sheriff's spokesman Dave Bristow. The body of the Winter Haven teen was found near where he disappeared in strong currents Saturday afternoon, he said. Deputies confirmed the name of the youth with family members. An incorrect last name was released yesterday.
Deputies searched the Gulf waters off the island's beach Saturday afternoon until well after dark and the search was resumed Sunday morning. Nelson went missing around 5 p.m. near the end of Willow Avenue, deputies said. Witnesses said the teen was swept underwater and could not be reached.
Another boy also was caught in the current but was able to get to shore, deputies said.
The boys were only in knee deep water, deputies said.
