MIAMI (AP) — This month marks a homecoming for Miami native and Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater Artistic Director Robert Battle.
Battle is in his third season as artistic director. The company will perform at the Adrienne Arsht Center Feb. 20 through Feb. 23 as part of a 23-city North American tour and will feature fellow Miami native Miami native Jamar Roberts. Roberts grew up in Miami's Liberty City and received training in Miami-Dade public schools, before entering the New World School of the Arts and later Juilliard.
This year's show includes "Lift", a new work commissioned for the company by Aszure Barton, as well as traditional works like its signature "Revelations."
The company also will provide free master classes for professional dancers, and presentations in schools around the county.
