SARASOTA - Authorities on Monday identified a 19-year-old who drowned while swimming off Lido Key Beach as Steeve Andrew Reserve of Sarasota.

Reserve's body was spotted by a search helicopter about 200 yards off South Lido Beach at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office said. A Sarasota police dive team pulled the body from the water.

Identification was delayed while officials sought to notify next of kin.

Reserve was swimming 50 to 75 yards offshore about 6:30 p.m. Saturday off Lido Key Beach and appeared to be in distress before slipping under water, the sheriff's office said.

The area in which he went missing, Big Pass, is known for tidal currents and has signs warning swimmers of the danger.
