FLORIDA'S LARGEST INSURER TO CONSIDER RATE HIKES
Florida's largest property insurer is readying another round of rate hikes that could affect more than a million policy holders. The board for Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is scheduled to meet in Miami on Wednesday. If approved by the board and state regulators, the overall statewide rate hike for all customers next year will be between 6.9 percent and 8.8 percent.
TESTIMONY CONTINUES IN GEORGE ZIMMERMAN TRIAL
More of Zimmerman's neighbors could testify Wednesday about what they saw on the rainy night last year when Trayvon Martin was fatally shot in the chest during a struggle with Zimmerman. One neighbor's testimony Tuesday was the first by a witness who saw some of the struggle between the neighborhood watch volunteer and the 17-year-old.
MAN GETS 15 YEARS FOR PREGNANT GIRLFRIEND'S DEATH
A St. Petersburg man has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for fatally shooting his pregnant girlfriend. A Pinellas County judge sentenced 22-year-old Larry Reed on Monday. He was convicted of manslaughter in May. Reed told authorities that he was unloading his gun in May 2010 when he accidentally shot 24-year-old Anastasia Boyd, who was four months pregnant with his child.
FLORIDA LOTTERY WARNS OF NEW SCAM
The Florida Lottery is warning citizens of a new scam. Lottery officials say a company using the name "LOTTO CLAIMS ASSOCIATE & SWEEPSTAKE INC" is sending letters to the public in an effort to obtain personal and financial information.
WORKER CRUSHED TO DEATH BY STEEL ROLL
A Tampa Bay area steel plant worker was crushed to death when a large steel roll fell on him. Pinellas Park police report that the accident happened Tuesday afternoon at USP Structural Connectors.
