MAN INDICTED IN SEXUAL BATTERY IN GIRL'S DEATH
The man accused of killing an 8-year-old Jacksonville girl has been indicted on charges of first-degree murder, kidnapping and capital sexual battery. The State Attorney's Office says 56-year-old Donald Smith was indicted on Tuesday. The indictment also says that Cherish Perrywinkle was strangled.
COPS: MIAMI MAN FATALLY SHOT OVER CELL PHONE
Miami police say a 54-year-old man is dead after being shot by a teenager who demanded his cell phone. The shooting happened late Monday in Miami. According to Miami police, officers responded to a call about 11:30 p.m. As they drove up, they saw someone running from the area. A perimeter was set up and a 16-year-old was arrested.
DEPUTIES: DRUNK MAN CRASHES HEAD-ON INTO CRUISER
A man is in jail after authorities say he crashed head-on into a parked Manatee County Sheriff's cruiser with a deputy inside. The deputy had responded to a call Monday night when 43-year-old Israel Lara-Contreras crossed the center line and hit the deputy's car. The deputy wasn't injured, but the car sustained about $3,000 in damages.
SUSPECT ARRESTED IN HIT-AND-RUN DEATH OF CHILD
Jacksonville police have arrested a suspect in the hit-and-run death of a 2-year-old girl at an apartment complex. Authorities say the toddler lived in the apartment complex and was struck and killed Sunday. On Monday evening, the sheriff's office arrested 34-year-old Serdarus Migel Scott.
COUPLE ARRESTED AFTER 200 CATS SEIZED IN MILTON
Deputies and animal control workers removed some 200 cats from a home in Milton on Monday. Allan and Ella Kirkman of Milton face several charges, including nuisance injurious to health and selling or letting diseased animals roam. The Kirkmans have operated a non-profit, no kill animal shelter called Kirkman Kattery Rescue out of their home for years.
