A Winter Haven man remains in jail today with his bond set at $500,000 in the death of his 3-month-old daughter after punching the child when her crying interrupted his nap.

Christopher Scott Ryon, 27, has been charged with aggravated manslaughter of a child, police said.

On Tuesday, when Riley Ryon's mother, Kristine Bardell, came home for lunch, she found Christopher Ryon asleep on the couch. Bardell entered the baby's bedroom and found her lying face down.

When Bardell turned her over, she saw Riley wasn't breathing and her face was a bluish tint, police said.

Bardell called 911. Police arrived and performed CPR on Riley. She was transported to Winter Haven Hospital, where she was pronounced dead.

The Polk County Medical Examiner's Office performed an autopsy and ruled the baby had a skull fracture, which was indicative of blunt force trauma, police said.

Detectives interviewed Ryon who admitted to punching his daughter in the head because she wouldn't stop crying. Ryon told investigators he wanted to take a nap and the baby's crying was disrupting him, police said.
