An Ellenton man fatally shot a pit bull that charged at him and his wife this afternoon, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said.
According to a report, this is what happened about 2:40 p.m.:
Stephen M. Parasian saw the dog in his back yard, then saw it run back into the open gate of 703 Ixora Ave. He exited his front door armed with a CCW pistol, accompanied by his wife.
His neighbor at 707 Ixora Ave called Parasian and his wife over. As they were walking toward the neighbor’s home, the pit bull exited the open gate again and aggressively charged them. Parasian shot the dog in the head. The animal dropped, but then lunged at the victims a second time, so Parasian shot the dog in the head again, killing it.
After deputies arrived, neighbors corroborated Parasian’s story, deputies said.
The dog was photographed and removed by animal control. The dog’s owner, Kimberly Rogers, returned home at the conclusion of the investigation, was notified of the shooting and provided with the animal control officers’ contact information, deputies said.
