The first day of school for Hillsborough County on Tuesday morning will find an increase in Tampa police traffic enforcement, authorities said.
Officers will show up at all Tampa schools and establish a presence at all the city's elementary schools for the rest of the week to ensure each elementary school is familiar with the officers patrolling in their area throughout the school year, police said.
“The back-to-school operation is designed to keep school children safe and give parents a sense of security,” said police spokeswoman Laura McElroy. Officers will make sure drivers are obeying all school zone and bus traffic laws, she said.
They also will assist with traffic direction and helping students cross the streets safely.
