Hillsborough schools to host choice sessions

TAMPA – As the school choice application period for Hillsborough County Public Schools begins next week, there are plenty of opportunities coming up for parents to learn about the process.

Here is the list of events:

* 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 14: Parent information meeting at Gaither High School, 16200 N. Dale Mabry Highway, Tampa.

* 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Nov. 19: Parent information meeting at Armwood High School, 12000 U.S. 92, Seffner.

* 3 to 7:30 p.m. Dec. 13: Magnet/choice expo at the Florida State Fairgrounds Florida Center.

* 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Jan. 30: Parent information meeting at Blake High School, (parents of elementary-schoolers only).

School choice and magnet programs are available for students entering kindergarten through 11th grade.

The application period opens for middle and high school students Tuesday at noon and closes on Dec. 18. Students currently enrolled in kindergarten through fourth grade may also apply online during that period.

The application period for elementary students who will be new to the school district lasts from Jan. 14 to Feb. 14. Parents of these students must download an application from the district’s Choice Options website, complete it and mail it to the address listed on the application.
