— A woman who was in her wheelchair Wednesday night died after being struck by a vehicle as she crossed the road, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said.

Kimberly Laughlin, 47, of Tampa, died at the scene of the 8:35 p.m. crash at Sheldon Road and Wood Lake Boulevard in Town 'N Country.

Laughlin had just been to a Radiant Food store. She was heading back in her wheelchair across Sheldon Road.

As she crossed the road, Rosemary Ann Fowler, 52, of Tampa, was heading north in the median lane of Sheldon Road at 45 mph in her 1997 Ford Explorer.

Fowler told investigators that she didn't see Laughlin travel into her path. The Ford struck Laughlin in the median lane, the sheriff's office said.

The case is under investigation.
