A woman who was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a crash last week has died from injuries she sustained in the crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
Judith Lewis, 74, of Ellenton, was pronounced dead on Monday at Tampa General Hospital, FHP said.
Judith Lewis was the passenger in a 2001 Oldsmobile Silhouette. The driver was identified as Herbert Lewis, 78, of Ellenton, FHP said.
At around 4:15 p.m. Thursday, Herbert Lewis was heading north on U.S. Highway 41 approaching Apollo Beach Boulevard. He was in the left turn lane about to travel west on Apollo Beach Boulevard, FHP said.
At the same time, Franklyn West, 60, of Ruskin, was approaching Apollo Beach Boulevard as he headed south on U.S. Highway 41, FHP said.
Herbert Lewis turned left into the path of West’s 2006 Chevrolet Silverado. West’s vehicle struck the passenger side of Herbert Lewis’ vehicle, FHP said.
After the crash, Judith Lewis was transported by emergency helicopter to Tampa General Hospital.
Herbert Lewis and West both suffered minor injuries.
Herbert Lewis was cited for violation of right-of-way, FHP said.
