Police have arrested two people they say stole a Chihuahua puppy from a Largo pet store.

The puppy was taken Wednesday from Pet Land at the Largo Mall, 10500 Ulmerton Road. The theft was caught on video.

Police identified the suspects and on Friday arrested Katelynne Eve Rusk, 24, and Christopher Daniel Morris, 40.

After Morris was arrested, family members located the puppy hidden under a blanket in a bedroom in the family home. The puppy was in poor health, suffering from apparent dehydration and malnutrition. Detectives took the puppy back to Pet Land for medical care.

Rusk was charged with grand theft and was released on $2,000 bail. Morris, who was arrested several times previously according to jail records, was charged with being a principal to grand theft and is being held on $5,000 bail.

Further charges may be filed depending on results of the puppy’s medical care, police said.
