Lakeland police are investigating a shooting early Saturday on Alligator Alley that left two men wounded, one critically.
According to a report, police were called about 2:11 a.m. to 1330 E. Memorial Blvd. about a shooting that had just occurred. One person had been shot in the parking lot area and a witness pointed out a possible suspect vehicle leaving the scene. Officers stopped the vehicle approximately a block away. A handgun was found in the vehicle.
The victim, James Kelvin Ingram, 31, was taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center with gunshot wounds to the right upper arm and chest area. He is in critical but stable condition, police said.
A second victim later drove himself to the hospital to be treated for a gunshot wound to his elbow.
Isiah Thomas, 24, the driver of the vehicle stopped by police, stated “Slick” fired a weapon at him first so he was only defending himself, police said. Thomas was arrested on charges of aggravated battery with a firearm.
Detectives said they received conflicting statements about the incident. Two groups of people were arguing just prior to the shooting; it is unknown whether the shooting was gang related.
The incident remains under investigation
