Two men were charged with armed robbery in Seffner on Monday after Hillsborough County deputies say they ran off with a cell phone that a victim was trying to sell on Craigslist last week.
Deputies charged Efrain Vasquez Hewitt, 24, of Riverview, and Hector Luis Anavitate, 19, of Plant City.
Deputies say Mannix Santos, of Seffner, received a call Thursday in reference to an ad he placed on Craigslist to sell his Samsung Galaxy phone for $300.
The next day, Santos — along with his wife and 12-year-old daughter — arranged to meet the man at , a parking lot at 750 W. Dr. Martin Luther King Blvd., deputies say.
As his wife and daughter waited in the car, Santos met with the man, who asked to inspect the phone. Deputies say the suspect pointed a semi-automatic handgun at Santos before taking the phone and running to an awaiting vehicle that fled south on Parsons Avenue while Santos gave chase.
Detectives on Sunday identified the vehicle and two suspects, and Anavitate and Hewitt were arrested on Monday, deputies say.
Both remain in custody on charges of armed robbery, deputies say. Anavitate is being held on $10,000 bond, and Hewitt is being held without bond.
