Two people escaped serious injury when a tree fell on a truck they were next to this morning, Tampa Fire Rescue said.
At 11:35 a.m., crews were sent to 3416 N. 34th St. in East Tampa where a tree had fallen onto a truck parked in the home's driveway.
Shaneen Burr, 44, and Bobby Johnson, 37, were within inches of the truck when the tree fell, officials said. Johnson said he heard the tree falling about the same time that Burr was about to get into the vehicle. He yelled to her as the tree landed on the truck and the chair where he was sitting. He was able to get himself and Burr out from the wreckage prior to the arrival of rescuers.
Officials said it appeared the tree fell because it was rotted. Burr and Johnson were taken to local hospitals with minor injuries.
