A tip led authorities to a convicted drug offender who had walked away from a work site and he was recaptured about noon Wednesday, according to the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office .

Jonathan Ray Jones, 29, of 4540 43rd Ave., Petersburg, was recaptured during a traffic stop on 58th Street, just north of 54th Avenue, the sheriff’s office said. Jones was a passenger in the vehicle.

Jones, who has been returned to the Pinellas County Jail, was working with a crew cleaning the baseball field Tuesday at 4145 34th St. N., when he walked away from the job being supervised by jail staff, the sheriff’s office said.

He was serving a 364-day sentence in county jail on drug charges, the sheriff’s office said. He is a nonviolent offender, with no prior history of discipline at the jail. He has been arrested multiple times since 2003, primarily on drug charges.
