Three people killed in Polk crashes this morning

Published:

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office has identified Jillian Lynn Braddock as the woman found dead on Clubhouse Road near Tillery Road. She was one of three people to die in three crashes in Polk County overnight.

The 20-year-old Lakeland woman had been hit by a car, deputies said. She was deceased when deputies arrived around 6:40 a.m. and appeared to have been on the road for at least a few hours.

Deputies are asking for help finding the car that hit Braddock. It’s likely a 2007-12 Nissan car, possibly an Altima, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said. Deputies said the car will have front-end and mirror damage on the passenger side. It would have been eastbound on Clubhouse Road when it struck the victim, they said.

Anyone with information should call (863) 298-6200.

Deputies are also investigating two other traffic fatalities.

Hector Chavez, 27, of Auburndale was killed while on a bicycle in a hit-and-run accident at the intersection of U.S. Highway 92 and Payne Street. Deputies responded to a call about the incident around 2:15 a.m.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with information about the accident to call (863) 298-6200.

Around 5 a.m., deputies were called to an accident on County Route 542 West near Jimmy Lee Road in Winter Haven.

Responders found a white 1998 Chevy Silverado truck upside down, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office said. On the truck, deputies found a power pole that had snapped in half and power lines.

The driver, Joshua Mims, 21, of Auburndale was dead, deputies said. Deputies said the truck might have been traveling west on 542, when the driver ran off the road and tried to right the vehicle, hitting a culvert and then the power pole.

The investigation is ongoing.
