Teen arrested after driving wrong way on I-75

A 17-year-old boy from Dade City was arrested for driving under the influence this morning after driving the wrong direction on Interstate 75, the Florida Highway Patrol Said.

Other drivers reported a Mazda RX-8 traveling south in the inside northbound lane in Wesley Chapel at around 4:04 a.m., troopers said. The car was traveling at varying speeds between 55 and 75 mph, troopers said.

Troopers responded and stopped the driver just north of Fletcher Avenue in Tampa.

The teen refused to exit the vehicle and was forcibly removed and arrested, troopers said.

The teen was charged with resisting arrest and driving under the influence. A test showed his blood alcohol level at 0.14, troopers said.

He was also charged with possession of marijuana, which was found in the vehicle, in addition to several noncriminal traffic charges, troopers said.
