Tampa police: Suspect surrendered after shooting at officer

Published:

An armed suspect shot at a Tampa police officer on Tuesday night.

The officer wasn’t injured but the suspect hid in an apartment where police negotiators spent two and a half hours convincing him to surrender.

The suspect surrendered at the University Oakwood Apartments, 1280 East 113th Ave., Tampa. Two other men, two women and a 3-year-old boy also came out of the apartment when the suspect surrendered. They were not held against their will, but they chose to stay in the apartment until the man surrendered, police said.

Police were called to the apartment complex just before 9 p.m. Tuesday when residents called 911 to report that they heard shots fired.

When officers arrived at the scene, the suspect shot at an officer. No officer was injured.

The suspect ran off, and police officers chased after him. But the suspect disappeared in an apartment.

He came out of the apartment after police negotiators had talked to him for two and half hours.

The man’s name wasn’t released and charges are pending, police said. Stay with TBO.com for updates.
