TAMPA - Police are searching for a man they say ran out of an International Plaza jewelry store with a diamond engagement ring.

The man walked into Helzberg Diamonds at 2223 N. West Shore Blvd. shortly after noon Monday and told a clerk he was about to "pop the question" and was looking for a ring priced around $8,000, police said.

The clerk showed the man two rings, before the man snatched the second ring off the display and ran out of the store, police said.

Surveillance video shows the man getting into the passenger door of a waiting Volkswagen Jetta that sped off in an unknown direction.

Tampa police are asking for help identifying the suspect who they described as 5 feet 6 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall and 180 to 190 pounds.

The car is described as a 2008 to 2010 VW Jetta, possibly SE model, with dark tint, stock rims and no tag.

Anyone with information about the robbery can call Crimestoppers at 800-873-8477. Callers will remain anonymous and are eligible to receive a cash reward of up to $1,000 if the information leads to an arrest.
