Tampa police captured a suspect they say fled Sunday night following an armed robbery at a McDonald’s near downtown Tampa.

Police responded around 10 p.m. to a robbery call at the McDonald’s at 4443 W. Kennedy Blvd.

Police say 23-year-old Mario James Allen, unknown address, pointed a handgun at the manager and fled after being given money from a safe.

Police say an officer, driving southbound on North Lois Avenue, saw Allen running from the area and apprehended him on West Kennedy Boulevard.

Police say the officer recovered the stolen cash, which was returned to the store, and Allen had the handgun used in the robbery in his pocket.

No injuries were reported.

Allen is being held without bail on armed robbery and gun charges.
