Jamar Silas, arrested last week after his pregnant girlfriend was fatally shot in the head, has been charged with her death.
Tampa police said Monday that Silas, 22, of 438 Maple Point Drive in Seffner, faces a second-degree murder charge in the slaying of Brianna Anderson.
Anderson, 22, was shot in the head Wednesday afternoon for unknown reasons at her home at the North Boulevard Homes apartments, 919 W. Chestnut St., police said
She was eight months pregnant, and a healthy baby was delivered by cesarean section before Anderson died at Tampa General Hospital, police said. Anderson was also the mother of a 2-year-old boy.
Two witnesses came forward and identified Silas as the man who exited the home after hearing a gunshot, police said.
Silas also exchanged text messages with another person stating “he had messed up and that the victim was dead,” police said in a news release.
Silas was taken into custody Wednesday evening after police spotted a blue Hyundai Accent on Interstate 275 in which he was a passenger. After the Hyundai left the highway, a pursuit began but police stopped the vehicle using a PIT manuever, police said.
Five schools near the shooting scene were put on lockdown during the manhunt.
Silas was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm, police said. Police did not say whether the driver of the Hyundai faces charges.
