Tampa man charged in beating death of roommate

A Tampa man was charged Saturday with the beating death of his roommate.

Tampa police say James Jugo, 52, admitting during questioning to hitting 56-year-old Benjamin Calderon numerous times on his head, face and body.

Police were investigating the death of Calderon, 8722 48th St. N., Apt. B., on Friday, and an autopsy determined he died of blunt force trauma to the head and internal bleeding.

Jugo told police that Calderon was his roommate, and they had an argument that resulted in the beating.

Jugo was charged with manslaughter and is being held at the Hillsborough County Jail on $15,000 bond.

Jail records show Jugo has been jailed multiple times on charges including drug possession, battery, burglary and dealing in stolen property.
