Tampa man arrested in credit union robbery

A Tampa man has been charged in last week’s robbery at a Town ’N Country credit union, and a search warrant at his home led to the arrest of four others on drug charges.

Christopher A. Gilbert, 36, of 8809 Poe Drive, was arrested Tuesday on a charge of strong-arm robbery. He was booked at the Hillsborough Count Jail with no bail set.

About 10 a.m. July 22, a man entered the Grow Financial Federal Credit Union, at 8314 Sheldon Road, and presented a note to a teller demanding money, deputies said said. The teller complied and the man fled on foot with an undisclosed about of cash.

On Tuesday, Hillsborough County sheriff’s detectives executed a search warrant at Gilbert’s residence. During the search, three other people living there were found with illegal drugs and another with illegal drug paraphernalia, the sheriff’s office said.

Those arrested and their charges:

• Sherry Schmoyer, 50, maintaining a dwelling for drug use, possession of clonazepam, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, possession of a legend drug without a prescription. She was being held on $3,250 bail.

• Richard Chastain, 57, possession of dilaudid, possession of clonazepam, possession of marijuana less than 20 grams, violation of probation (possession of drug paraphernalia). He was being held without bail.

• Kelly Bonsall, 40, two counts of possession of a legend drug without a prescription. He was being held on $500 bail.

• Mark Clem Sr., 47, possession of drug paraphernalia. He was jailed and released after posting $500 bail.
