A Tampa man is facing a charge of first-degree murder after a 3-year-old girl he abused died Thursday, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Elisamuel Pacheco, 24, also faces charges of capital sexual battery and aggravated child abuse.
The girl, along with her 9-month-old twin brothers, had been in Pacheco’s care during the previous week and on Thursday while their mother worked. She had been experiencing vomiting and was lethargic during the previous week and on Thursday, deputies said, but relatives thought it was a virus.
Between 6 and 7 p.m. Thursday, however, the girl was found to be unresponsive. After 911 was called, she was transported to Florida Hospital by Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. She was declared dead at 7:51 p.m.. deputies said.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office determined the girl had signs of sexual battery and internal injuries, and the cause of death was ruled to be beating, deputies said.
Pacheco was arrested about 6 p.m. Friday.
According to jail records, Pacheco has been arrested several times, most recently on July 13 on a charge of domestic battery. He was released on $5,000 bail.
