Suspected ATM robber caught in north Tampa

Investigators say they have caught the man who has been robbing people at ATMs just north of Tampa.

Charles Griffin was charged Tuesday with one count of armed robbery. The Hillsboro County Sheriff’s Office said Griffin, armed with a handgun, robbed a man who was using an ATM outside a Bank of America, 250 E. Bearss Ave., about 1:30 p.m. Monday.

The gunman fled in a newer-model gray Dodge Journey sport utility vehicle, deputies said. Investigators said they spotted the SUV on Tuesday morning and arrested Griffin, whom they said matched the image of the robber captured in surveillance videos.

The sheriff’s office said Griffin, of 14408 Audobon Trace, Apt. 1115, also is a suspect in at least two other similar robberies in the last three days.
