Suspect ID'd in theft of donation box at Tampa drive-thru

Hillsborough County deputies said they have identified a man suspected of stealing a charity donation box this month from a McDonald's restaurant drive-thru.

The sheriff's office said it is looking for Richard Ray Peralta Jr., 47, of Tampa.

The theft occurred about 12:40 a.m. Aug. 15 at the McDonald's at 7350 Waters Ave., the sheriff's office said. The thief was seen on a surveillance camera walking up to the drive-thru lane and removing the box, which contained about $400.

According to the Hillsborough County Jail website, Peralta has been arrested multiple times dating to 1998 on charges including drug possession, theft, grand theft and driving under the influence.

According to jail records, Peralta is 5 feet 11 inches tall and 170 pounds. In the surveillance video, the thief had short black hair and a brown goatee, and was wearing a faded red “Tampa Bay Buccaneers” T-shirt, blue shorts and brown flip-flops.

Anyone with any information on Peralta was asked to call the sheriff's office at (813) 247-8200 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477). Tipsters to Crime Stoppers remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash report.
