Tampa police say they have arrested a suspect in a Feb. 14 home invasion robbery.

Alvin Howard, 36, 2625 S. Union St., St. Petersburg, was booked today into Orient Road Jail on charges of armed kidnapping, armed robbery, armed burglary and aggravated assault.

According to police, shortly after midnight on Feb. 14, Howard followed the victim, a woman in her late 20s, into her home on South MacDill Avenue bwtween Gandy and Interbay boulevards, where he tied her up, ransacked her home and stole valuables. The suspect was in the victim's home for approximately 45 minutes.

After he left, the victim was able to free herself and run to a neighbor's home and call 911, police said.

Crime scene technicians sent DNA left at the scene to FDLE for analysis, which led to the identification of Howard, police said. He was arrested today at his home, where the victim's television was found, police said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges are possible.

Police said Howard was released from prison last year after serving time for similar offenses.
