A 44-year-old St. Petersburg man was killed early Saturday in a crash on McMullen Booth Road south of Union Street, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

According to a report, at 6 a.m. a 2005 Hyundai Elantra driven by Tracy Joseph Thieben was northbound on McMullen Booth Road in the outside lane Meanwhile, a 2000 Pontiac Montana driven by Scotty Ray Baine, 45, of Oldsmar was southbound on the same road.

For unknown reasons, FHP said, the Hyundai crossed the northbound lanes, went across the raised median and into the southbound lanes. It entered the Pontiac’s path, and the vehicles collided.

Thieben died at the scene, FHP said. Baine was taken to Mease Countryside Hospital with minor injuries.

The incident remains under investigation.
