St. Pete man dies days after nightclub shooting

A man who was shot Monday during a fight at a St. Petersburg nightclub has died, the St. Petersburg Police Department said.

Doncaro Keion Small, 32, 162 38th Avenue SE, died at Bayfront Medical Center early today, police said.

About 1 a.m. Monday, officers were called to the Hollywood Nites Club, 1201 Dr. Martin Luther King St. S. by a report of a brawl reportedly involving 20 to 30 people. By the time officers arrived, however, the fight was over and only a few people remained.

A short time later, Small showed up at Bayfront with a gunshot wound to the torso that he apparently got during the brawl, police said. He drove himself to the hospital, and after surgery the wound was thought to be non-life-threatening, police said. However, Small suffered a medical episode today and died.

The Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death.

Detectives are now investigating the shooting as a homicide and are seeking help from the public. Anyone who might have information is asked to call Detective Kenny Miller at (727) 892-4536 or St. Petersburg Police at (727) 893-7780.
