- An Army major charged with first-degree murder has been released on $1.5 million bail.

Roman Izzo was released about 7:30 p.m. Thursday from the Pinellas County Jail. Izzo, 36, is charged with stabbing and killing Vincent Lee, who was found dead in his Clearwater condominium at 3151 Landmark Drive in November 2011. Lee had been in a custody battle with Izzo’s wife, Jodi Izzo, with whom Lee had two children.

Izzo was permitted to post bond, a rare decision for a capital case, and was in court earlier this week to seek a judge’s approval for a GPS system to monitor his movements. He also got approval to stay with his cousin at a local address.

Some residents where Izzo previously was going to stay were concerned he could be a flight risk and a danger to the community. His attorney, Steve Romine, said Izzo has been cooperating with police and if he had planned to flee, he would have done it during the investigation.

Izzo is scheduled to appear for a pretrial hearing Oct. 13.
