“Tech-savvy” scammers installed skimming chips on pumps at three Shell-Circle K gas station in South Tampa, police said Tuesday.

The chips allow thieves to steal personal information from credit or debit cards.

The devices were installed on the computer hard drives inside of the pumps, making it difficult for store attendants and consumers to notice them, police said.

The stores affected were at:

• 4015 S. West Shore Blvd.

• 6416 S. Dale Mabry Highway.

• 3650 S. Dale Mabry Highway.

Police advise consumers to make sure the pump’s security seal hasn’t been tampered with and avoid pumps out of the attendant’s view. Customers may also pay inside the store.
