A shirtless man - apparently intoxicated and wearing Gasparilla beads - broke into and damaged the Hillsborough County courthouse annex Saturday night, officials said.
The man was caught by security, but broke free as he was being led away for medical attention, officials said.
Just after 7:30 p.m., the man smashed a glass door of the annex, at 801 E. Twiggs St., and was found by security a short time later, investigators said.
However, the man escaped from security as he was being led from the building to get him medical attention, officials said.
Video surveillance showed the man acted alone and caused $500 worth of damage.
The man was described as between 22 and 29 years old, about 190 pounds with a fair complexion, large build and short brown hair. He was wearing camouflage khaki shorts and had parade beads around his neck.
The burglary occurred shortly after Tampa's annual Gasparilla parade and during a street festival on Ashley Drive, several blocks away.
