Sheriff’s office investigating shooting death of Tampa man

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting death of a Tampa man.

Around 11:20 p.m. Friday, a man called police and said his brother had been shot in Tampa, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

Shelby Jones, 52, was found dead.

The brother told police he and the victim were inside a shed on their property when an unknown man entered. The man’s face was concealed with a bandana, the brother told police.

The unknown man then brandished a firearm and tried to rob the brothers, the man told police. The brother who called police said the man struck him in the head with the firearm. The victim made an inadvertent movement and the unknown assailant then shot Jones in the upper torso, the brother said to police.

Police are still investigating. The only description available of the subject is he’s a white male who had a bandana over his face.

The brother who called police has not been identified.
