A Tampa man faces charges after deputies say he hit a woman trying to cross Waters Avenue and then fled the scene.

The woman, later identified as 53-year-old Patricia Silva Plaud of Tampa, was walking across Waters Avenue northbound from Oak Trace Way about 7:43 p.m. on Monday, police said.

Delvys Villafuerte Castellon, 36, of Tampa, was headed eastbound in his Ford F-150 and did not see her in time, police said.

Castellon swerved but struck her, and police said he continued eastbound and did not stop.

Plaud was pronounced dead at 7:58 p.m., police said.

About 8:45 p.m., Castellon returned to the scene and admitted to the offense, according to police. He was arrested for leaving the scene of a crash involving death and was booked into the Hillsborough County Jail.
