A traffic argument escalated in Riverview this morning and the encounter led one man to drive into the other man, who is now hospitalized, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office.

About 10:26 a.m., Carlos Caicedo saw Richard Simpson driving recklessly to the point where he almost struck a child, the sheriff’s office said.

Caicedo then got the license tag of Simpson’s vehicle. Simpson, 41, noticed what Caicedo was doing and followed him to the intersection of Golden Silence Drive and Ambleside Boulevard, according to the sheriff’s office. Both men got out of their vehicles and began arguing.

Simpson then got back into his 2003 Honda Civic and struck Caicedo, the sheriff’s office said. Caicedo, 39, was transported via helicopter to Tampa General Hospital where he is in critical, but stable condition.

Simpson, 11023 Silver Dancer Drive, is being charged with one count of attempted murder and is being booked at Orient Road Jail, the sheriff’s office said.
