A Largo woman who had been hospitalized since a Labor Day bicycle accident on Memorial Causeway in Clearwater died this morning.

Hilary Michalak, 27, died at 7:42 a.m. at Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where she had been since the Sept. 2 hit-and-run crash, Clearwater police spokesman Rob Shaw said.

The other passenger on the tandem bike, Robert Lemon, 25, died the day of the crash at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Tampa.

The vehicle that hit them on the causeway about 6:15 that morning left the scene, Clearwater police said.

Christopher Patrick Weed, 29, was arrested the next day and charged with one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving death, and one count of leaving the scene of an accident involving injury.

That second charge is likely to be upgraded because of Michalak’s death, but it will be up to the Pasco-Pinellas State Attorney’s Office to do that, Shaw said.

Weed is being held in the Pinellas County Jail.
