Sarasota woman charged after man she shoved dies

A 25-year-old woman has been charged with aggravated manslaughter after a 65-year-old man she shoved died, the Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to the probably cause affidavit, on Dec. 6, Megan Quinn Belle of Sarasota was having an argument with two women in front of her home at 3119 Bee Ridge Road. Meanwhile, Kevin Watts, who lived in another unit at that address and was not involved in the argument, walked near the women on the sidewalk.

Belle yelled at Watts to “get off my property” and shoved him in the chest, causing him to fall down and strike his head on the pavement. He was taken to Sarasota Memorial Hospital, where he died Tuesday without regaining consciousness. An autopsy shows the cause of death was the injuries from the fall, the affidavit said.

Belle was originally arrested and charged with aggravated battery on an elderly person, but the charge has been upgraded, according to police.
