Sarasota restaurant workers foil robbery attempt

Published:

Some alert Sarasota restaurant employees foiled a would-be armed robber early Friday when they simply ran out the back door of the building.

The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office said the man walked into the China 1 restaurant, 6575 S. Tamiami Trail, and flashed a handgun.

Instead of handing over cash, the employees turned and ran.

The Sarasota Herald-Tribune reported the man chased after the workers but soon gave up. He jumped into a green sedan parked behind the restaurant and drove away, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputies haven’t found the suspect. He was described a white and about 6 feet 2 inches tall. He was wearing a bluish-green T-shirt and had pantyhose covering his face.

Anyone with information was asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (941) 366-8477.
