The Sarasota County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a road rage shooting on U.S. 41 Tuesday and asking for the public’s assistance.

About 4 p.m., a Geo Tracker and another vehicle were southbound on U.S. 41 in Sarasota County. Near El Prado Avenue and South Tamiami Trail, in front of the La Casa Mobile Home Park, someone in the Geo Tracker pointed what was described as a shotgun at the other vehicle and fired bird shot into the passenger window, the sheriff’s office said.

The sheriff’s office said the victims and a witness tried to follow the suspect before the victims pulled into a Lowe’s parking lot.

The driver of the other vehicle was treated for non-life threatening injuries, according to the sheriff’s office.

At about 10 p.m., the Geo Tracker was found and detectives interviewed the driver, a white male, 25 to 30 years old. The Geo Tracker is green with a black top and running boards.

The case was originally reported by North Port police, but it is being investigated by the Sarasota sheriff’s department because it happened in its jurisdiction.

Anyone with information about the shooting or the suspect's vehicle is asked to call the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office front desk, (941) 861-4081 or Crime Stoppers at (941) 366-TIPS (8477).
