A Riverview postal carrier is facing federal charges after trying to sell U.S. Treasury checks, Middle District of Florida Acting U.S. Attorney A. Lee Bentley III said today.
Orville Dwight Hylton, 40, has been charged with theft of government property. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years’ imprisonment for each offense.
According to the complaint, Hylton tried to sell nearly $20,000 worth of checks, in other peoples’ names, for a discounted amount. The addresses on the checks were located in the same ZIP code,where Hylton delivered mail.
